Hi Chris,

I think you'd be best pursuing another option if you're looking for network-style multi-user -- am I'm right in thinking that's what you're referring to?

Any update on multi-user? If the pro version is on the horizon, and multi-user will be part of it, I can put off deciding on a process for a new document management system. Otherwise, I need to decide soon -- I'm trying to hold out for Benubird, because I like what I've seen so far, it just doesn't quite meet our needs.

I have just installed Benubird PDF and it rocks..! Great going guys. I shall certainly be ready to pay for a pro version when a portable version becomes available.
Also I would like to see an automatic synch option between a portable media(USB etc) and the stationery parent installation, such as home PC etc.

Hi there
Some like the linked Version, we like the repository mode of benubird.
But.....
If we let watch the system some directories, benubird doesn't "import/copy" them into the repository.
We would like to have an option on each watchdirecotry-konfiguration to tell benubird if to import (copy or move as an additional option) the files into the repository or leave them, where they are.
So everybody still have the choice.

So for example: I can scan always into the same directory, benubird picks them up, moves them into the repository and my scan-direcotry again is empty.
Nice wouldn't it??

a portable edition would be great. Allmost all of the computers here at work are user-blocked (no access to administrator) so we can't install anything to our PC. Asking to do that (even if we know there's no risc at all) would result in a "NO-WAY" answer from our beloved PC-technicians. The only way to let them accept this is to prove them that Benubird can be usefull for everyone and does no harm installing it. To do so, a portable version on a USB drive should do the stuff and let us spread the word (portable word?) and, by the way, get us aquainted without leaving any trace on that work-PC of us.

I have tried to make a portable edition myself, but without lucky. I really wanna find out a portable edition.
Second, I have found out that, the software will write database into directory of C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Benubird. See, if you re-install your OS., all the database files are lost, then you must re-add the books(pdfs) into BenuBird. So, if there is a way to change the database directory, so that it can be backupped. When you re-install your OS., the database can be recoverred from where you backupped.

Good morning,

it seems like BB still is not able to read the metadata of jpg/tif-files. While this works well with pdf and office files, the tags / author etc. of jpg/tif are apparently not imported into BB. Is there a solution for this problem by now? Defining the tags manually inside BB would take too much time and the files are tagged already anyway.

I have a question about "Filenames" in Benubird (1.4.0.5).

I use the "linked" Feature and I was wondering that no Filename will be changed on the physical Folder after I changed the Filename in Benubird. Ist that Filename just a Property in the DataBase?

But if I manage my Data via BenuBird than I should have the abililty to change the Filename out of Benubird. Or not?

Since the list of filetypes is fairly comprehensive, it would be a nice touch if the program would 'remember' what filetypes I have chosen so I don't have to search through and check them off each time.

This is a great program. I don't believe there's anything out there that even comes close to this. If there is, I have been unable to find it. Commendable work.

I agree with Johan. I work in computer consulting and we exchange a lot of documents with clients. User-defined fields would be a godsend. Then we could embed data such as platform, software version used, etc. These things are currently entered as part of the pdf text and requires opening the document to retrieve the data. Defining our own fields would streamline a lot of our processes.

The most important thing to me would be the ability to tag and categorize, and add comments to my documents that I keep on a USB drive with a program that executes from the Drive and would not install anything on the computer it is running on.

I just discovered Benubird - and its the closest that I have seen to an "IDEAL" document management system - which is simple to use and deploy. Somehow the overall interface, the features are perfectly thought out from the user's point of view - and not done by some programmer sitting in his own ivory tower. Hats off to Debenu for this...

Few features that I feel will help a lot are,

a. Add viewers of various common files like CAD, DWG, DXF, Common 3D modeling softwares etc. - Maybe you can have different versions for different sets of users - one for graphics user, one for engineering CAD users etc.

b. Add facility to auto seek the meta tags from the file content and prompt user to verify and confirm. This can be used to search the files later.

c. Add facility to have some customizable tags for every file - like Project Name, Project Number, etc. and we could then end up classifying all files related to an x project together

d. Add a feature where it could modify the "original file storage location" to the new "benubird" structure - by creating folders, subfolders, categories, tags etc. on the hard disk - at the click of a button. This will save an enormous headache for classifying the files manually into different folders - like we did - about 60 GB of pdf / doc / xls / dwg / ppt / etc. etc. - and it took us a better part of 2 months dedicatedly to do that.

e. Add feature to create temporary "file bunches" or "File groups" which are needed for a particular purpose - where various files are linked under that group (the files might originally belong to a X project) - but they are temporarily bunched to a particular group - which can be search friendly.

By the way when do you propose to launch the pro version?

Good point -- in the future we could look to include this natively using our Quick PDF Library (www.quickpdflibrary.com).

Still talking on it ... but we've received a lot of positive responses on this? Anyone else interesting in this feature? If so, how would you imagine it would function...
